Timeline

1787: Birth in Botetourt, Virginia[citation needed]
1810: Botetourt, Virginia (marriage to Sarah)[2]
1815 - 1826: Migration from Virginia to Iowa.[4]
(war service in Virginia until 1814)[3]
1827 - 1837: Residence in Ohio.[4]
1830: Michael and his family appear on the 1830 US Census in Bethel, Clark County, Ohio.*[5]
1838 - 1849: Migration from Ohio to Iowa.[4]
1850: Mahaksa, Iowa.[4]
1852: Richland, Mahaksa, Iowa.[6]
1856: Scott, Mahaksa, Iowa.[7]
1860: Scott, Mahaksa, Iowa[8]
1866: Michael passed away on 20 April 1866 (aged 78) in Leighton, Mahaska County, Iowa. He was buried at Centennial Cemetery.[9]
  • Note: On the 1830 census, there is an additional child that has not been attributed to this family (one boy aged 5 - 9). There is also a man aged 20 to 29 and a woman aged 15 to 19 also present. It is possible (likely) that another couple and their baby are living with Michael and Sarah, perhaps a 21 year old man & his 19 year old wife. This couple could be siblings, cousins, or boarders.

Profession

On the 1850 US census, Michael is listed as a farmer.[4]

Michael's profession is listed as a mechanic on the 1860 US census.[8]

Research Notes

  • Some online trees give Michael's father's name as Sanford, born about 1759 in Botetourt, VA. On 31 Dec 2019 discovered the same (father as Sanford) on a cousin match family tree at FTDNA. Baty-260 09:19, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
