Biography

Evalina was born in the early 1840s in Somerset.

She left for Adelaide, on the Rockliffe which departed London on 17 September 1864. Her occupation on the ship records was Housemaid.

"VINEY. — The FRIENDS of the late Mrs EVALINA VINEY are respectfully informed that her Funeral will leave, the residence of her son (Mr. Herbert Viney), Henry-street, off Surflen-street, on MONDAY, at 2 p.m., for St. Mary's Cemetery, South-road."^[2]

Re birth: "Government record: birth-name: Eliza Tavennor (Taverner) (Tavner)" Viewed Family Search 2 Feb 2024. This birth record seems inadequate. Free BMD and GRO have not (yet) produced a more suitable record of Evalina's birth. Both her surname and first name could have multiple spellings. The emigration record indicates a birth date of 1844; the Find a Grave record gives 1842.
