Music and influence

Evert Taube - Tatuerarevalsen

Axel Evert Taube is “widely regarded as one of Sweden's most respected musicians and the foremost troubadour of the Swedish ballad tradition in the 20th century”.[13] As a young man, Taube sailed around the world.[14] eventually settling for five years in Argentina(1910-1915), where he developed an interest in Latin American music,[13] while learning to play guitar and to speak Spanish and Italian.

In 1917 Taube published his first Ballad followed shortly by his first book, the collection of novellas Inte precis om kvinnorna  (1918) (Not exactly about women).[14]

Throughout his life he showed an affinity for sailors’ ballads (including those from the point of view of Taube’s alter ego Fritiof Andersson, and later, his more mature alter ego Rönnerdahl), and his work featured recurrent themes of love, nature, and the sea.[13]
