Ashburton Guardian, 18 October 1939.[3] OBITUARY MR E. E. TASKER. The death of Mr Ernest Edward Tasker, at the age of 74 years, occurred at Christchurch on Thursday, and the funeral took place at Ashburton on Saturday. Mr Tasker was well-known in Ashburton in its early days. Mr Tasker was born at Nelson, and was a son of Mr James Tasker, who later established a butchery business in Ashburton. He attended the Ashburton High School and when he left he went into business with his father, remaining till 1895 when he went to Geraldine and started on his own account. He was a member of the Druids’ Lodge in Ashburton, but joined the Oddfellows’ Lodge in Geraldine. Some years later he returned to Ashburton and started a butcher’s shop in Saunders’ Buildings. When his wife died some years later, My Tasker went to live, at Mayfield, and he remained there for two years, when he took up residence at Fairton, working at the freezing works. Mr Tasker was a remarkable shot with the rifle and he travelled to shooting meetings all over the Dominion, winning a large number of trophies. He was a prominent member of the Ashburton Gun Club, and at one meeting won five of the seven matches. In his younger days he made numerous appearances on the running track, and gained many prizes. He married Miss Amelia Taylor, a daughter of Mr James Taylor, of Ashburton. He leaves a daughter (Mrs Atkinson, of Auckland), and four sons (Messrs. P. Tasker, of Auckland; H. Tasker, who conducts an orchestra in Melbourne; N. Tasker, of New Plymouth; and O. Tasker, of Auckland).
