Notes for WILLIAM A. TARLTON: William Alexander Tarlton was born February 1, 1847 in Union County. On May 30, 1864 at the age of 17 years and 4 months, he enrolled in the Confederate States Army. He was mustered into Captain Thomas C. Rowland's Co., Reserve Force, Junior Class on June 1, 1864 at Camp Holmes.

The Company Muster Roll report states that Tarlton was 5 foot 7, with fair complexion, light hair, blue eyes and was by occupation a farmer.

The Company Muster Roll reports, dated August 31 to October 31, 1864, show Tarlton as a member of Co. F, Anderson's Battalion, NC Junior Reserves. On December 7, 1864 the 2nd Regiment, NC Junior Reserves was officially organized, of which Anderson's Battalion was a part.

Tarlton was present with his company, according to all available records, until he was admitted to the hospital at Raleigh on April 10, 1865. He was paroled at Charlotte, May 3, 1865 with the remark "at home".
