Biography

Sarah was born about 1782, daughter of Abraham Swisher and Jane Burgess.

She married John Welliver about 1800.

Their children were:
  1. Jacob Welliver (abt.1803-abt.1885)
  2. Deborah (Welliver) Wintersteen (1807-1875)
  3. George W. Welliver (1809-1894)
  4. Lavina (Welliver) Fleming (1810-1885)
  5. John Welliver III (1812-1872)
  6. Sarah (Welliver) Hunter (abt.1812-bef.1860)
  7. Martha (Welliver) Hunter (1815-1891)

She died in January 1850,[1]

Research Note

Sarah is not on the 1850 Census with John Welliver because she passed away in January of that year. Sarah A Swisher, age 27, on the census is her niece, daughter of Philip Swisher.

From Linda Crannell:

I'm staying in the Sarah Swisher camp. Here's why for me. Sarah Welliver died in Jan of 1850 as Sarah Wolliver. This is on the 1850 Mortality Schedule for Madison, Columbia Pennsylvania. I believe this is John Welliver's wife. He was widowed later on the 1850 census for Madison, Columbia, Pennsylvania. There is a young woman living with him, Sarah A Swisher. I believe this is a relative of his late wife. Sarah Swisher Welliver had several nieces also named Sarah. DNA evidence? There are Welliver cousins, who have shared their Ancestry DNA with me and have DNA matches with Sarah's brother, Phillip Swisher. But this is 5th Gen and not solid, but it's something nonetheless. Something else to ponder: John Welliver's children named their daughters Sarah 5 times, Mary 5 1/2 times and Martha 4 times. (The 1/2 was a Mary Margaret)
