Biography

Son of William Frederick Swim/m and Eva Foster. He was executed in 1922, having been convicted of the double murder of his cousin and former girlfriend[1] Olive Swim/m and her husband Harvey Trenholm. Noted for having to be hung twice, as the substitute hangman[2], either through overconfinence or drunkeness, bungled the hanging. This prompted changes in the way executions were carried out.

A large crowd of over 300 people attended his funeral[3] in Mainstream on October 14, 1922.[4] The funeral was held at the Rockland Baptist Church, officiated by Reverends Perley Quigg and H. Bragdon.

He was buried in the Cold Stream Cemetery, outside the fence. A wooden cross marked his grave, but was not replaced after it rotted away.[5]
