Timeline
Research Notes
This John Swick (27 April 1763 - 3 Oct 1854) that married Magdalene Covert is listed in the "Swick Genealogy" by Billy Lee Swick as being the son of Martin and Magdalena Swick.[2]
However "DESCENDANTS OF SOME EARLY SETTLERS OF THE
TRUMANSBURG-COVERT (N.Y.) AREA" has John Swick listed as the son of Tunis Swick and Rachel Rose.[3]
The Geni profile for John Martin Swick also lists Tunis and Rachel Swick as his parents.[4]
Donald Smith There is another John Swick that some sites (Ancestry...) confuse with this one. They were born the same year, but in different areas of New Jersey, and the other John died in PA in 1849. The 1850 census of Wilson, Niagara, NY, taken on 18 July 1850 clearly places a John Swick and wife Magdaline (machine mis-read as 'Smith' on Ancestry) which is after the other John Swick had passed away in 1849.
Immediately below the entry for John and Magdaline in the 1850 census[5] is the family of 'John Swick Jr' with wife Maria (both age 44). They are John Alonzo Swick and wife Maria Fulkerson which is supported by the last child listed, daughter Azuba at age 6. She is Azuba Lovina Swick. The fact that the two Swick households are immediate neighbors suggests a family relationship connecting three generations, which is supported by other sources such as
John Swick b. 27 Apr 1763 as person 6.51 in the "DESCENDANTS OF SOME EARLY SETTLERS OF THE TRUMANSBURG-COVERT.." source.
