"In the 1867 Pacific Coast Directory Minor Swick has his occupation listed as 'Gaylord & Swick, proprietors, Corvallis Sash Factory.'
In the 1880 census Minor and Cerenda live in Corvallis, Benton Co., Oregon with sons John M, 10, Charles G, 6, and Frank who is 1 year. By 1910 his mother-in-law Mary Stewart was living with them.
Minor Swick, came from Michigan in 1853 and settled at French Prairie in Marion County. With him were his father and three brothers, Tunis, Lyman, and Ben. When he came to Benton County the others remained at French Prairie. In Benton County he married Cerenda Stewart, daughter of John and Mary Stewart. There were five sons and one daughter but none of them ever married except for John.
Minor and his brothers all went to the Prineville country in eastern Oregon in 1872, when they engaged in the cattle business."[1]

"Minor, second son (who grew to maturity), 14, when he and the fam¬ ily crossed the plains in 1853, worked three years in a sash and door factory, then farming near Corvallis, and later near Dayton, where he re¬ sided until his death. He had a son, John, by his wife, Cerinda Stewart, whom he married at Corvallis. John was educated in Corvallis, married, 1st, Elsie Grubbs, a daughter of Dr. Carl Grubbs; had a daughter, Mabel, who became Mrs. M. Porter, of Portland. John's wife died in I 9 I 7. In 1919, he married Mrs. Ina Fletcher, who came to Oregon from Ohio, in 1913.
