Biography

Robert de Sutton was born in 1240.[1]

Robert was the son and heir of William de Sutton.[1]

Robert had children:

  1. Richard, heir, aged 8 or 9 in 2 Edward I[2]

Robert de Sutton was 27, when an Inquisition was taken regarding his father, William de Sutton, on the Sunday after St Bartholomew in 52 Henry III, which found William had held Warsope manor in Nottingham of the king in chief, to which Robert was his heir.[1]

At his death, Robert was married to Joan, as a writ to the escheator of ultra Trentam dated 13 May, 2 Edward I [1274] ordered him to cause Joan late the wife of Robert to have 20 marks land in tenancy until her dower was assigned.[2] An extent or summary later found "the "lady" ought to be dowered of the manors of Ekering, Alverton and Cotum.[2]
