Biography

Margaret Buist Sutherland was born in 1903 at Caldercruix, Lanarkshire, Scotland, daughter of Henry Horn Sutherland and Allison Ritchie (Ovenstone) Sutherland. [1][2][3]

In the 1911 census Margaret (age 7) was in Linlithgow, Linlithgowshire, Scotland.[2]

She married Alexander Vickers on 25 April 1924 at West United Free Church Manse, Broxburn, West Lothian, Scotland. She was a Co-operative store assistant living at Society Place, Broxburn.[3]

She died on 1 June 1951 in Bangour Hospital, Broxburn, West Lothian, Scotland, age 48 years [4] and was buried on 5 June 1951 in Uphall Cemetery, Uphall, West Lothian, Scotland.[5]

Allison Ritchie Ovenstone was born on 20 October 1872 at Elie, Fife the daughter of James Ovenstone and Margaret Buist[6][7].

  • James Ovenstone was born about 1838 this is an estimation based on his wifes year of birth. There are two possible deaths for James one in 1897 aged 51 in Elie, Fife[8] which would give an estimated birth of 1846 which seems a bit late or a death in 1912 in Scoonie, Fife (which is the same place his wife died) aged 78 years[9] which would given an estimated birth year of 1834.
  • Margaret Buist was born or baptised on 10 January 1839 in Kilconquhar, Fife the daughter of William Buist and Isobel Hunter[10]. Margaret died in 1901 at Scoonie, Fife aged 59 years[11].
    • William Buist was born about 1806 this is an estimation based on his age at death. William died in 1884 at Cupar, Fife aged 78 years[12].
    • Isobel Hunter was born about 1802 this is an estimation based on her age at death. Isobel died in 1881 at Pittenweem, Fife aged 79 years[13].
    • William Buist and Isobel Hunter were married on 17 November 1827 in Kingsbarns, Fife[14].
