DEATHS
May 29, at Mhow, Lieut. Evelyn Gawlor Sturt, General List, attached to H.M.’s 6th Regt. N.I., aged 23 years.[3]
South Australian Register, 9 September 1864, page 2:
Captain Sturt.—A private letter from Captain Sturt to a friend in Adelaide contains the sad news of the death of his son Evelyn, who was carried off by cholera at Mhow, in Bombay, on the 29th of May last. On the Saturday he had breakfasted with his brother officers at mess at 1 o'clock, when he was apparently well and happy. At 3 he was taken ill and at 2 on Sunday morning he breathed his last in unconsciousness, having happily been spared the great hardships which usually attend that terrible malady.[4]
