Cavin F. "Studie" Studebaker, 82, a resident of Fredonia, Kansas died Thursday, October 26, 2000 at Beverly Health & Rehab in Fredonia. He was born June 18, 1918 in rural Fredonia, the son of Carl Joseph and Lula (Wass) Studebaker. He was a retired Master Sergeant from the United States Army, serving 1941-1961. During his years of service, he was an airplane mechanic and worked on the Sandstone Project for atomic bomb testing on Anwetok Island. From 1961-1966 he was a private airplane mechanic. From 1967-1971 he was a Civil Service heavy equipment operator at Milford Lake. In 1971 he moved to Sierra Vista, Arizona and returned to aircraft repair. He retired to Fredonia in 1992.
In 1944, he married Ernestine Reynolds. They were later divorced. In 1960, he married Myrtle Hinthorn. They were later divorced.
He was a certified volunteer forest firefighter in Arizona and a member of the Independence VFW.

He was preceded in death by his parents, both spouses, his twin brother, Calvin Studebaker and one son, David Studebaker.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Monday, October 30, 2000 at the Neodesha City Cemetery in Neodesha, Kansas with Elder John Cohee officiating. Friends may call at Timmons Funeral Home on Monday, 10:00 A.M.-12:00 Noon. Memorials have been established in his name with the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. Timmons Funeral Home in Fredonia is in charge of the arrangements.[1]
In October 1940, he was working at J R Fester Drilling in Fredonia, KS.[2]
He enlisted in the U.S. Army on February 24, 1941 and was released on November 19, 1945.[3] He served in Japan in WW II as an aircraft mechanic. After returning home, he had difficulty finding employment and reenlisted in the Army. He served in the Korean War and retired from the Army in the 60's.[4]
