Josef (Jürgen) Stroop is born September 26, 1895 in Detmold, Germany.
He is a German SS commander during the Nazi era, who serves as SS and Police Leader in occupied Poland. He leads the suppression of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in 1943 and writes the Stroop Report, a book-length account of the operation. Following the defeat of Germany, Stroop is prosecuted during the Dachau Trials and convicted of murdering nine U.S. prisoners of war. After his extradition to Poland, Stroop is tried, convicted, and executed for crimes against humanity.
He died March 6, 1952 in Warsaw, Poland.
