Hello,

Thank you for joining WikiTree. As a WikiTree Mentor I am available to answer any questions or help solve any issues you may be having. How is your experience with Wikitree going? Our G2G Forum is searchable or you can post a question there.

Do you have Royal Ancestors? They are already here on Wikitree! Rather than create duplicate profiles for them, please contact the EuroAristo Project to discuss connecting your family line to their profiles.

The Help Index is also an important place to find how to do most tasks.

Feel free to ask me via my profile page if you have any questions.

I live in Hillsboro, Oregon. I am currently researching my direct Stratton line. My Stratton ancestors went from VA to KY, then my gr gr grandfather Samuel took his family to MO and KS for about 10 years, then they moved on to Oregon in 1882. I am a decendent of Solomon Strutton/Stratton b abt 1745 possibly in VA (birth date is based on the estimated birth of his first child daughter Esther in 1766). The name was consistently spelled Strutton until it became Stratton sometime after coming to KY. The name of his wife is Jane unknown, although some have suggested Jane Witten and this has been copied over and over, however, I have not discovered its origin. They lived on the Bluestone River in Montgomery/Wythe counties in the same place according to a deed from 1783. About 1796 they moved to live on Mare Creek in Mason County, KY, (it became Floyd county in 1800), when they sold at least some of their land in VA. There have been a wide range of names suggested to be the children of this Solomon, but the only proven list I know of comes from Floyd County KY court records concerning his estate. The parents of Solomon are also unknown although some have suggested John Stratton & Mary Shannon, but I haven't found the proof that supports this theory. (Solomon's brother John married a Mary Shannon in Amherst County VA abt. 1772.) I have recently been working on adding the names of the brothers and sisters of those in my Stratton line. I have a copy of a court document from Floyd County that states that Solomon Hunter is the son of Tandy and the grandson of the first KY Solomon. Y-111 DNA test done by my brother reveals Solomon Stratton is kin to the clan chief of the MacLaren Clan. There have been several Big Y tests completed by descendants of Solomon and his brother Isaac and indicate the common ancestor with the clan chief was born in Perthshire, Scotland in the early 1600's. This line of Strattons likely used the surname Stratton/Strutton only in America.
