Malise was born about 1150, son to Ferteth earl of Strathearn and his wife Ethen.
In 1172, King William the Lion granted a charter in favour of Malise, son of Ferteth, Earl of Strathern, of the lands of Muthill, Tuliedel, Ogilvie, Bardrill, Kincardine and Auchtermachany and Rossie, to be held of Earl Gilbert, his brother, for usual duties and service of one knight.[1]
He married Ada the daughter of David Earl of Huntingdon.
