Biography

Margaret Stork was born about 1778 in Nova Scotia.[1] She married Frederick Cronk in Digby's Trinity Anglican Church on October 5, 1802.[2] Their date of arrival on Grand Manan is unclear, but the couple appears there in the 1851 Census as an elderly fisherman, his wife, and three sons Marshal, Frederick, and George.[3]

Her connection to earlier Storks in Nova Scotia has not yet been ascertained.

  • Note in Esther Clark Wright's Planters and Pioneers: "George Stork (Storch, Stirk) – Arrived in Halifax on the ship Ann in 1750 from Oberklingen in the Palatinate, died before 1759. M. Eva. Children: Leonard, Mary Elizabeth, Anna Maria, Nicolas."
  • John Stork appears in the 1771 Census of Granville Township in Annapolis County.[4]
  • John Stirks and "Widow Stirk" appear in the 1795 Digby Census.[5]
  • By 1838, Digby has the province's largest concentration of Sturks: Charles Sturk, Chris Sturk Jr., John Sturk, Joseph Sturk, and Laurance Sturk all headed households there.[6]
  • Jacob Storks appears in the 1838 Granville Census.[7]
