Harlan Fiske Stone was noted for being the 12th Chief Justice of the United States, as well as the 52nd United States Attorney General. He spent 25 years on the faculty at Columbia Law School, first as a law professor, and then as the dean for 13 years. [1]

He was born on a farm in Chesterfield, New Hampshire and grew up in Amherst, Mass. He attended Amherst College and Columbia Law School.

The US Postal Service issued a stamp in his honor in 1948. [2]
