ACCIDENT AT SPORTS[2] By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) MATAMATA, this day. A young man, Claude Stewart, whose parents reside at Northcote, received concussion on Saturday through falling and sustaining a knock in a footballers' fancy costume race, held at sports for the copper trail ejampaign. He was removed to the Matamata private hospital, which reports thij morning that the patient is out of danger. The sports were adjourned in consequence of the accident.
Pertinent to know that Matamata hospital is the closest to that of Tokoroa and does not have a hospital itself. Claude was 21 at the time of this footballing mishap.
AFTER-HOURS TRADE [3] POLICE RAID AT ALBANY As a sequel to a police visit to the Albany Hotel, the licensee, John Norton, was charged at the Police Court to-day with selling liquor after hours. Norton was fined £5, and his son, Neil Norton, was fined £3 for supplving liquor. Louis Halverson. Claude Stewart and George Sutcliffe, who were found on the premises after hours, were each fined 20s. The charges against five young men who proved that they were on the premises for the purpose of obtaining * meal, were dismissed.

TWO MEN BEFORE COURT [from our own correspondent] WHANGREI Monday In the Whangarei Magistrate's Court to-day a charge of stealing a pair of shoes and five cups of a total value of 12s 6d, the property of the Purua Settlers, was prefferred against Robert Benjamin Williamson and Leslie Devin Wilson. Evidence was given by Claude Stewart, schoolmaster, and Roderick Finlayson, settler, of Purua, that tho two accused took the articles from outside the Purua Hall. Counsel said it was the custom of the two men to collect bottles, and as soon as they were asked for the articles by Stewart they returned them without question. Counsel asked for suppression of the names; "I will certainly not suppress the names in this case," said Mr. G. N. Morris, S.M. "Accused will be convicted and ordered to pay costs, 7s 6d each, the publication of the names will be part of the punishment."

Claude Devenish Stewart died on 21 January 1951 (aged 53–54) in Popondetta, Ijivitari District, Northern, Papua New Guinea and was buried in the Popondetta Memorial Cemetery, Popondetta, Ijivitari District, Northern, Papua New Guinea.
He died following a volcanic eruption.
