James was born on 22 December 1858 in Kentucky. He was the son of John P. Stewart and Millie Ann Carroll.
James married Lottie May Norris.[1] They lived in Woodbury, East Morgantown Precinct, Butler County, Kentucky.[2][3] They migrated to Crosby County, Texas.[4]
In 1930 James lived as a widower in Crosby County, Texas.[5]
James died on an unknown date at an unknown location.[6] He was buried at Crosbyton Cemetery, Crosbyton, Crosby County, Texas.[7]
