William Payne "Payne" Stewart was born at Springfield, Missouri, on January 30th, 1957, the son of William Louis Stewart and Bernice Lucinda Payne.
Payne Stewart was a professional golfer, noted for being a colorful dresser, winner of eleven PGA Tour tournaments, including three major championships.
Payne Stewart died due to hypoxia, with all on board a Learjet, when it crashed, during a flight from Florida to Texas, at 12.13pm, on October 25th, 1999.[2]
The other passengers were the two pilots, and Payne's agents. Robert Fraley and Van Ardan. The Learjet 35, operated by Sunjet Aviation left Orlando International Airport in Florida, at 919am, heading for Dallas, Texas, where Payne was scheduled to play in the PGA Championship, the final event for the year. Payne was buried at Doctor Phillips Cemetery, Orlando, Florida, and has a Cenotaph at his home town of Springfield.
