Biography

Michael Stewart was born circa 1672, the eldest child of Hugh Stewart and Wait or Waitestill (Denne) Stewart^[1]. This relationship was established in his father's will, dated March 15, 1710^[2]

Circa 1702, Michael married Mary, whose surname is unknown, and they had two daughters, including:

1. Bethia, born 21 Sep 1704^[3], who married Samuel Hamilton
2. Patience, born August 27, 1713^[4]

Michael died in 1716.

Probate

Michael Stuart of Chatham died intestate and on 26 September 1716, his brother Samuel was granted the administration of his estate. The inventory of his assets was dated September 24, 1716.^[5] His widow Mary received housekeeping items from the estate.^[6][7], and his estate passed probate on August 24, 1720^[8] The 1720 document lists his two living children, and states that his wife Mary had remarried Joshua Harding, Jr, of Chatham in the interim.
