William Stewart was born on 15 July 1867 in Barnawartha, Victoria, Australia, son of Grace (Simpson) Stewart and Peter Hannah Stewart.^[1]

He married Sarah Louisa Craig Lowe on 29 August 1896 in Balmain, New South Wales.^{[citation needed]} Their children were:^{[citation needed]}
