Biography
Frederick was born in 1814 in Le Ray, NY, near Watertown. he attended Louisville Academy and read law with Charles Dayan in Louisville. He decided to follow commercial pursuits and became clerk with Leonard Harding. He went to Mobile, Ala., in 1836 but was compelled to leave the city in 1837 on account of yellow fever. he went to Jones Bluff in Cumpter Co., SC and spent six years there in the dry goods business, returning to Mobile in 1843. He went in business there. he continued in business in Mobile until 1861 when the war broke out. [1]
