Donald was born in 1930. He was the son of Archie Stewart and Sarah Campbell.

He passed away in 1999 and is buried in Westwood Memorial Park, Los Angeles, California.[1]

Donald Stewart, who wrote screenplays for three Tom Clancy books and won an Oscar in 1982 for "Missing," has died. He was 69.
Mr. Stewart died of cancer Wednesday at his Los Angeles home, Nancy Fenderson, spokeswoman for Pierce Bros. Westwood Village Mortuary, said Thursday. The funeral will be private.
Mr. Stewart's first screenplay was "Jackson County Jail" in 1976. He also wrote the movie scripts for the Clancy movies "The Hunt for Red October," "Clear and Present Danger" and "Patriot Games."
He is survived by his wife, Joan, and children Scott Stewart of Grosse Isle, Mich., Sarah Casselman of Pinckney, Mich., and Peter Stewart of Jacksonville, Fla.

Screen Writing Career

Academy Award-winning screenwriter. His first film was Roger Corman's Jackson County Jail and his last was Dead Silence, a TV-movie starring James Garner (1997). He also wrote or co-wrote the screenplays for the Tom Clancy-trilogy of Jack Ryan films The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger. In 1982, he won the Best Screenplay Oscar for the drama Missing. See His Acceptance Speech.
