William was born in Jamaica. He was a convict after the 3rd fleet who was transported to Australia on the ship "Countess of Harcourt" which arrived in New South Wales in September 1828. He had been tried at Lancs Quarter Sessions in England. He was a "black" African. He was granted a Ticket of Leave to the district of Bathurst. [1][2]
He was aged 30 on arrival in New South Wales. His offence had been "stealing money for which crime he was handed down a sentence of transportation of 7 years. His occupation had been as a barber.
