Biography
Norman Steward is a part of US Black heritage.
Norman Stacey Stewart was born on 24 August 1893 or 1894 in Schulenburg, Fayette County, Texas. He and Asia Minor Darden were married in El Paso, Texas, in December 1914 when he reported that he was born in 1893[1] He might have done that to be old enough to get married without permission. Norman and Minor were still living in the El Paso area when Norman completed his WWI Draft registration in 1917. He reported that he was born on the same date in 1894, that he worked as a cook in Columbus, New Mexico, and that the couple had one child.[2] A year one way or the other on the 1917 document would not have made a difference in whether he was drafted, so is probably the more accurate date.
By 1919, the couple had moved to Los Angeles, California, where their second child, Lowell Cedric Stewart, was born.[3]
Asia Minor died in 1956 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Los Angeles.[4] Norman may have remarried.
