Rebecca Stetson was born in May 1743 at Hanover, Massachusetts. ^[1] She was the 2nd child and daughter of Nathaniel Stetson and Rebecca (Brisco) Stetson ^[1].

A. O.F. Stetson, in "The Descendants.." lists the twins as the children of Rebecca and Joesph Studley ^[2]. They were probably born in late 1765 or early 1776, after the death of their father, who was struck by lightning and killed in 1765. rsl

B. She adopted the surname of her Father-in-Law, Elisha Witherell upon the 2nd marriage of her mother. Her 2nd husband was also named Elisha Witherell, and a child of that marriage is named Elisha Witherell
