Biography

Daughter of Gottlieb Stern and Luise Stern.

Wife of Aden Brandt and C. G. Adolph Bergmann.

Mother of Anna Brandt, Christian Brandt, Ernestine Brandt, Bernhard Brandt. Look for these children also under the surname Bergmann.

1880 Census, Brillion, Calumet, WI, 21 June; page 32 B supervisor's district 4, enumeration district 25 line 20 dwelling 204 family 259 Brandt, Aden W M 32 shoemaker b. Denmark as were parents; Brandt, Henryette W F 25 keeping house born Prussia as were parents; Brandt, Anna W F 5 daughter born WI, father b. Denmark, mother b. Prussia. Brandt, Christian, W M son 3 b. WI father b. Denmark, mother b. Prussia. Brandt, Ernstina 5/12 daughter b. WI, father b. Denmark, mother .b Prussia.[1]

I put Anna Brand with this family because she is listed as a granddaughter of Gottlieb and Louise Stern in the 1880 Census of Maple Grove Twp., Manitowoc Co., WI. Henriette was the oldest living daughter at this time, and most likely to have been married with a child of four. Augustina was only 17 in 1880 and I doubt she was married and pregnant at 13. The name is indexed as "GRAND" by FamilySearch.org. [2]

A second marriage is indicated by the fact that in the marriage record to C. G. A. Bergmann the wife's name is listed as Henriette Brandt, and the wife's parents are Gottlieb and Luise Stern. [3]

1900 Census has two Henriette Bergmanns. One was b Germany Jan 1855 and is living in Milwaukee with husband Gustav with children Edward and Otto. She emigrated in 1882. The other was born in Germany in Jan 1853 and is living in Oconto County with husband Adolph and children Anna, Christ, Antina and Bernhard. She emigrated in 1855. This one is the more likely to be Henriette Stern Bergmann because the emigration date is very close to her birth date.

The Oconto County Bergmanns list the three children as stepchildren of Adolph Bergmann, age 52, b Sept 1847 married 16 yrs b Germany as were parents, emigrated 1883 naturalized. farmer. Henriette Bergmann, wife age 47 b Jan 1853 married 16 yrs mother of 4, 4 now living. Anna Bergmann (the surname Brandt is crossed out), stepdaughter b Jul 1877 age 23 b Wisconsin; Christ Bergmann stepson b Jul 1878 age 22 b Wisconsin; Antina Bergmann stepdaughter age 21 b Dec 1879 b Wisconsin; Bernhard Bergmann stepson age 20 b Feb 1880 Wisconsin.
