Biography

Jessie Elizabeth Stephens was born on 12 May 1889, in West Ham, Essex, England, to William Brodie Stephens and Martha Elizabeth Robinson.[1]

She was recorded in the census in 1891, aged about 2, in 32 Trinity St, West Ham, West Ham, England.

Jessie was recorded in the census in 1901, aged about 12, in 51 Clifton RD, West Ham, West Ham, England.

She was recorded in the census on 2 April 1911, aged 21, in Lynmouth Eastwood Road, Woodford, Essex, England.

It is known that Jessie worked for the famous singer Clara Butts, possibly as her servant.

Jessie Elizabeth Stephens and William Walter Champion were married about Nov 1913 in West Ham, Essex, England.[2]

She was recorded in the census on 29 September 1939, aged 50, in 61, Star Lane, West Ham, Essex, England. Jessie died on 27 December 1957, aged 68, in London, England.

She died on the 29th of November 1957 at age of 68 years in West Ham, Essex, England at Plaistow Hospital. Cause was recorded as Coronary Thrombosis and Hypertension. The death certificate states she lived at 69 Star Lane and that her husband was William Walter Champion, electrical engineer. The informant to the death was listed as W. E. Hine, her daughter.[3]
