As a "Tree Hugger", I want to congratulate you for being one of the top contributors in the Monthly Sourcerer's Challenge for adding sources to 731 profiles in May, 2020 and being awarded the Royal Effort Milestone sticker.
I am confused why you removed the tags from https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Merritt-2008. Are you related? Was the data incorrect? I'm pretty sure not, as all those links used to work. Now they do not. I don't know if you broke them or if they broke before and maybe you just found out, but I'll put them back. Also if it was a format thing you didn't like, you should put those on Suggestions.
This is important because: John here is the father of that guy , Willard, who started our genealogy. He's the guy I took over from. That three page document IS the start of our genealogy. By removing the tags, you removed the reason he is connected to us. So it's important to me that these tags are correct. Hopefully this is just a bad edit. Thanks.
Mike Merritt
PS - checking out that thing, I bet you just found a broken link. While a heads up would have been nice if not required, I did repair it. Appreciate the help in this matter! MM
In the sources section there is a references tag <references /> which brings in references from the <ref> <ref /> tags. These <ref> tags need to be in sections above the <references /> tag to work properly. Because your tags were below it, it caused a flag to be thrown and ended up on a Data Doctor report. These reports are used by some of us who volunteer to help clean up various profiles on Wikitree. Because your citation looked more like a source, I decided to remove the tags and make it more like a normal source. If it looked more like an inline citation (i.e. making a reference to a source within a biography) I would have just moved it to the Biography section as a whole. In the spirit of a Wiki, I made the change to the public profile, but the change has been tracked, so you can always roll it back if you feel it is appropriate, but note that if a <ref> tag shows up below a <references /> tag in the next database query, it will show up on the Data Doctors report and something similar may happen again.
Please note: I didn't change the link, any of the data in the profile, just the ref tags. This should not have broken anything, it only stopped the circular reference back to the same Sources section. I didn't validate or change any data or sources on the profile, that would have been done more along the vein of a Sourcerors project.
While I am not the most expert here, I am happy to try to answer any other questions.
Thanks for working with me. Can you link me a page that you think is properly done please? Doesn't matter whose family. I don't see the difference between sources and references, maybe I just need an example to understand.
I don't see anything that would throw an error for the one I was specifically looking for. However, I do see a mix of sources and references up in the Biography section.
I am not the most expert, but from what I understand, the Biography is for referencing sources inline with summary text (ex: According to the bio of his grandson, "...Richard Merritt, was born near Hanover, Va., but came to Kentucky about the time of the organization of the State, and was one of the pioneers of Lincoln County. His death occurred in Garrard County..." <ref> Rootsweb: Bio of WT Merritt [1]</ref>)
And that the sources sections is for things not referenced in written text like: * 1800 - Richard listed in Lincoln County KY Tax List
I noticed that you used the Challenge Tracker to track a change during a recent Saturday Sourcing Sprint. Please consider officially joining us for the Saturday Sourcing Sprints. You can find information, including how to join, on the Sprints Help page.
No pressure, every profile with a source makes our WikiTree better. Your work will continue to be included in the Tracking Sheet's Unregistered total at the bottom of the help page if you do not register.
Your work is appreciated. Thanks for sourcing!

PS Did you discover that the surname tags on your profile are clickable links? Each will take you to a page of other people who research the surname and a bunch of links which might be helpful. You can add more surname tags, up to 20 total
Thanks for volunteering, Joe! You are now a full member of the WikiTree community. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do.
Start with the New Member How-To pages - they are really useful as you add profiles and learn your way around.
You are the first WikiTreer to follow the STENNET surname tag, but there may be others later. Also, consider adding a tag for each variation of your surname.

Here's an example of a properly formatted simple profile (please don't save changes): https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Example-2&action=edit#text

If so, I can see why the alerts are on the page in question. It's way broke.
Thanks!
server error, posting a second time, sorry for repeats

I'll start by fixing that one page. Also I see your points on the page I referenced. I appreciate that you checked it out.
