Note: Grandma Winslow's father's name is shown as Nehemiah Steere in the Winslow genealogy, but Frank N. in census records where Neva is a child in that household. I assume they are one in the same. Mother is Eliza Wilson, nothing else found. 1880 census shows Neva at 4 yo, living in Philadelphia, with sister Edna 8 yo. Father Frank N and Mother Eliza 1900 census shows Neva living in Philadelphia, but both parents are from RI. Neither parent is in the residence in 1900, head of household seems to be Edna Smith, a sister in law. There are both Steere and Smith young people in the house, but neither Frank nor Eliza.
Grandson Richard Winslow reports that his father Alvah always said Neva was 1/4 Narragansett Indian. I wonder if there is any info in South Country RI? Update, my DNA dispels the myth completely.
