Biography
Lieutenant Colonel Francis West Statham OBE was born on 25th June 1916 at Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. He was a son of Geoffrey Houison Statham and Jane Rose West.[1]
Frank married Hazel Thompson in 1939 at Sydney, New South Wales.[2]

On 31st October 1939, Frank was commissioned into the Second Australian Imperial Force (AIF). He served in North Africa with Headquarters 9th Division and in New Guinea with Headquarters 1st Army Corps. He was de-mobilised from the AIF on 29th October 1945, having attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.[3]
He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1947 for 'highly meritorious service in the Middle East and New Guinea'. The award was gazetted in the London Gazette 6th March 1947 on page 1086 at position 29 and the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette 6th Mar 1947 on page 748 at position 62[4][5]
In 1977, Frank married Bangka Island Massacre survivor, Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd) Vivian Bullwinkel.[6]
He passed away, aged 83 years, on 3rd December 1999 at Claremont, Western Australia and is buried in Karrakatta Cemetery.[7] Vivian died the following July of a heart attack.
