Biography

This is a placeholder for the unknown Statham parent of William Dabney Statham, who was named in the 1781 will of his grandfather, Love Statham. He was identified as illegitimate in an October 1786 guardian bond.

As noted in William Dabney's profile, all of his children male and female alike carried the middle initial D, presumably for Dabney. And a case can be made that his father was a Dabney and his mother the daughter of Love Statham.

This is suggested by the fact that William Dabney's oldest child, John D. Statham, began going by John Dabney by about 1830, and this change in surname was carried on by his line. So, for example, John's daughter Judith D. Statham married James Harlowe in Fluvanna County in 1841. Buth her death certificate names her father as John Dabney. Likewise, Judith is identified as Judith Dabney in the death certificates of her children Amanda Dudley, Willard R. Harlowe, Walter Browley Harlowe and Emma H. Chewning.

This is only speculative and more extensive research is still needed.
