Biography

Lafayette's brith and death dates and middle name come from the school catalog for Dartmouth College, which he attended for two years (1850-1852).

Lafayette died in his early 20s having never married. He published his will on 14 Nov 1858 with his cousin Thomas B. Statham and John J. Gage as witnesses. Gage proved the will on 2 Nov 1859. Lafayette left all of his possessions to his father, named him Executor to the will and directed that no bond and security should be required of him.

Moses Runnels (Memorial Sketches) remembered that Lafayette had visited his older brother Walter at Dartmouth and "was with him at Hanover for some time, also that this brother became warmly attached to one of the brightest of the Hanover boys, Byron J. Dudley, who went back with him to the South." Byron subsequently married Lafayette's sister Permelia.
