Biography

Grace was born in Stank/Hetherick, Harewood, Yorkshire 1653 & baptised Grase Stable, 1 January 1653/4, Harewood, Yorkshire the daughter of James Stable. ^[1]

The marriage of Joshua Suttell & Grace Stables was conducted 30 November 1685 Harewood, Yorkshire ^[2]

She died on 23 August 1723 ^[3]

Memorial Inscription Transcript:

Here lieth the body of Grace Sutal, late wife of Joshua Sutal of Harewood, who departed this life the 23rd of Augst. Anno Salutis 1723 Aetatis 73 [years]. Also the body of Joshua, the husband of the said Grace Suttal, who departed this life on the 30th day of January Anno Salutis 1728 Aetatis 78 [years]. Here lieth also the body of James Sutal and Dorothy, his wife, late of Harewood, who died. Dorothy on the 27th of September aged 55 years and James on the 3d. of October aged 51 years, Anno Domini 1737. ^[4]

"GRACE, baptised 1 Jany 1652, married to Joshua Suttle or Suttel Novr 30, 1685, she being about 33 years of age. I have before me a church rate for 1721, headed "An eight-fold lay, to be gathered of ye inhabitants within the Township of Harewood, for ye repairs of the church, by Joshua Suttel, church-warden, for ye year 1721.", in which is John Elliss 4/8 (the largest occupier), John Stable 2/8, Joshua Suttel, 2/0. Total 3/15/2. In the will of James Stable he bequeaths to his daughter Grace, the wife of Joshua Suttel, one house in Huby and one garth and croft thereto adjoining, which I purchased of Frances Brookes; also one other close called Feofse (Fosse?) in Huby; also 20 pounds charged on the long closes, which I purchased of Matthew Rothery. I have in my possession a receipt in full for 11 pounds from Josua Suttele to John Stable, dated 28 June 1722.

In the Church yard at Harewood, near the Tombs of the Stable family, is a very ancient altar tombstone, with the following inscription (copied by me July 3, 1821) :: 23rd (Salulis 1723 of Augst. Anno- (Aecalis -73
