Biography

Samuel Springate was born in Benenden, Kent, England.

Baptism: Samuel Springate, son of George Springate & Jane Springate, was baptised on 27 April 1701 in Benenden, Kent, England.^[1]

Apprenticeship: Saml Springett a Master Butcher took on an apprentice (Will Moore) on 10 September 1731 in Eltham, Kent.^[2]

Marriage: Samuel Springate married Elisabeth Wheeler on 28 October 1742 in Sevenoaks, Kent, England.^[3]

Children There is no mention of children between Samuel and Elizabeth in the will. The County genealogies : pedigrees of the families of the county of Kent^[4] states that Samuel died S.P. (s.p. = sine prole; without offspring).

Death: The will which was signed on 29 August 1748 was proved on 13 Dec 1748 and identifies his wife Elizabeth as the Executrix. therefore Samual died between these dates.

Will: Samuel Springet died in about 1748 in Eltham, Kent, England. Their will passed probate on 13 December 1748.^[5] The will refers to:

Him being a Butcher.

Elizabeth, his wife, and refers to Elizabeth's possessions in 'Riverhead in the parish of Sevenoaks'.

His brother George; and his son George, as heirs receiving land in Sevenoaks.

His brother Robert; and his son John, who should receive two farms in Hawkhurst, Kent.

FamilySearch has been used as the primary search tool but where this has not been able to provide answers, other tools, such as FindMyPast and Ancestry, have been used.

The marriage to Elizabeth is speculative but reasonable as it is substatiated by the will and her later own death and will in 1750.

No record of burial could be found.

The references to brothers George and John and their son's in the will supports the assertion that the will is assigned to the correct Samuel Springate / Springett.

Elizabeth Wheeler in her will refers to her first husband, Charles Wheeler, who she wishes to be buried with.
