Biography

Jonathan Spencer was born "about 1767". He was son of Gideon Spencer and Zerviah Buck. [1] [2] [3]

Jonathan Spencer was added to the list of residents of Vergennes, Vermont in 1790. [4]

Jonathan Spencer and Joanna Seeger were married on Nov 25, 1792 in Panton, Addison, Vermont. [5]

His farm was "On the road from Vergennes to Addison meeting-house, in the east part of the town.." and later owned by his son George Spencer. "At the corner next south was a tannery owned by the Spencer family... " [6]

The 1830 US Census for Panton, Addison, Vermont -- Household of Jonathan Spencer includes ten people. [7]

Research Notes

The state death record is transcribed as death in 1833. [8] The Find A Grave profile says he died 1835 [9] and the gravestone image shows 1835. The image of the death record is hard to read - it looks like 1833. [10]
