George Washington Spencer was born on May 1, 1842 in Wilcox, Alabama, United States, son of William Ford Spencer (1799–1869) and Lucinda Clay Thaxton (1803–1866).
George (24) married Rebecca Jane McCants (22) (born on March 21, 1844 in Belle Landing, Monroe, Alabama) on October 19, 1866 in Monroe.[1] Their children were:
- Edwin Ford Spencer (1868–1934)
- John Spencer (1870–<1880)
- Charlie F Spencer (1872–1936)
- Sallie Spencer (1875–1938)
- Oliver Henry Spencer (1876–1951)
- George Washington Spencer (1878–1917)
- John Dee Spencer (1881–1947)
George died on August 24, 1881 in Wilcox, aged 39. He was buried in McCarty Cemetery.[2]
