She was named in the will of Randle Holme, gentleman, of the City of Chester. His will, dated 2 June 1704, said: "I give and bequeath to Mary Speed and Barbara Speed Daughters of Richard Speed of Wrexham in the County of Denbigh Ironmonger the Sum of Fourty pounds I say to each of them twenty pounds".[2]
She was buried on 1 December 1749 in Wrexham, Denbighshire, and entered in the parish register as "Mrs: Mary Speed of W[rexham] R[egis] Spinster".[3]
She had made a will describing herself as "Mary Speed Doter of Richard Speed in the county of Denbigh spincser".[1] She made bequests to:
Her will was proved by Griffith Speed, the sole executor, on 19 May 1750.[1]
