History

We would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which the cemetery resides, the Yuggera and Turrbal peoples. We pay our respects to all Elders, past, present, and emerging.

The Queensland government reserved the land as a cemetery reserve in 1866 [1]

The first person interred in the cemetery was Jane Hockings on the 1st of August 1870.

In 1961, the cemetery was deemed full and closed to new burials. However, burials in family plots were permitted. In 1998, a small number of new plots were released.

In 2003, the cemetery was added to the Queensland Heritage Register as a place of historical, cultural, and aesthetic significance. [2]

Notable Interments

This section is optional. Are there any notable interments located at the cemetery? War heroes? Political figures? Even local historical figures count in this area (location namesakes, etc.). This section should contain no more than 5-6 profile links. If you need more room, why not start a new Free-space page for the notable interments and just provide a general description of the types of notables one may find buried here?

More Information

This should be a bulleted list of links/resources for the cemetery itself, such as the cemetery category where profiles are attached, the cemetery's website (if available), a link to the FindAGrave cemetery page, a Wikipedia entry for the cemetery?
