Edit: I can see a lot of these public domain images were created with either Filter Forge or Genetica, if you're familiar with those programs you will be able to 'see' the effect those programs leave on seamless textures. They're fantastic considering they're generated by a computer formula and not using images as sources, but they lack a human touch, and now, in 2018, seem quite dated when compared to real-world photography based seamless textures of the same size, or ones created by hand in Photoshop or the like. Not a complaint, just an observation :)
