PGM Profile Review Checklist

Before doing any major work on a profile being managed by PGM:

  • Comment on the profile that you plan to enrich and update it.
  • Follow this checklist.

BASIC

  • Does the profile belong in the Project (migrated between 1621 & 1640)?
  • Are there duplicates? If so initiate a merge(s). For further help with merges, see PGM Editing Guidance.
  • Are the categories appropriate? Should additional categories be added?
  • Categories, templates, and stickers can be added by anyone. They must be in the proper order (see WikiTree help page). Correct order is:
  1. Categories (see PGM Maintenance Categories for details)
  2. Research Note Boxes
  3. Project Boxes
  4. ==Biography==
  5. Stickers

DATA SECTION

  • New style dates should be used in the Data Field. See Dates, Calendars and Genealogy for help.
  • Data Correct? Ensure data fields match what is sourced in the Biography section
  1. Birth: date/place/parents
  2. Marriage: date/place/wife(s)
  3. Death: date/place
  • Note: Plymouth Colony 1620-1691;
  • Massachusetts Bay Colony 1628-1690;
  • Province of Massachusetts Bay 1691-1776.
  • Other locations: Location Names by Time Period
  • Check the radio buttons and appropriate checkboxes:
  1. Before, after, estimate, exact? For further guidance on dates, see PGM Editing Guidance.
  2. No children?
  3. No more children/siblings?
  4. No spouse? No more spouses?

BIOGRAPHY SECTION

  • If the biography can be enhanced and made more readable with headers, add them.
  • Good Sources? See PGM reliable sources
  1. Are there enough original sources? Add sources from The Great Migration Series by Robert Charles Anderson.
  2. Are there good derivative or authored sources?
  3. Spouse(s) sourced? Original sources, names of parents.
  4. Child(ren) listed? One source citation and an identifying fact. You may choose to use [#] if the birth order is known, or [*] if the order is not known. Any profiles connected as children should also be listed in the biography; it is desirable for every child shown in the biography to have his/her own profile, using at least one reliable source. Any children who migrated with a parent(s) should also have either 1) PGM minor child sticker (if under 21 at migration) or 2) PGM project box, and PGM as a co-manager (if they were adults).
  • Good Biography?
  1. Narrative biographies are preferred. It is acceptable to include bullet points in the narrative.
  2. Is spelling and punctuation correct, and abbreviations spelled out?
  3. Does the biography agree with points in the data?
  • Are there sentences that point to the information in the data?
  • Is there an explanation in the biography for any dates that are only estimated?
  • Are the biography and the data in agreement?
  • If there is a marriage in the biography, is there an attached profile for the spouse?
  • Are the children listed the same ones as the attached profiles?
4. Is the migration information included and sourced?
5. Are there inline citations throughout the biography? Help with citations is available here.
  • Check citation against source material if possible, ensuring data in bio matches info contained in source.
  • Make sure source's link in WT is working, and format of citation is correct. Proper formatting for all types of citations (books, periodicals, etc.) can be found here.
  • Check sources under "See Also" to make sure format is correct and links are working.
  • Remove any online trees and note (or remove) questionable sources.
6. If new style dates are used in the data field, double dating should be added to the biography.

IS THERE DISPUTED INFO?

  • Are there Disputes? Add a Research Note Box AND add detailed information about the dispute in the Research Notes section, under a level three heading ===Disputed XYZ===. Then the profile should be project-protected. Make a comment on the profile such as: "Disputed section added, ready for Leader to PPP."

IMAGES

  • Are all images relevant to the profile?
  • Are they in the public domain? Make sure there is a source attached AND a statement of why it can be used (i.e Creative Commons... public domain...).
  • If a wallpaper is used, is it subtle? Does it distract from the text? These are usually not recommended on PGM profiles.
  • If the images are within the biography section, are they a reasonable size and do they appear properly placed (e.g., left or right justified, or centered) These are usually not recommended on PGM profiles.
