Introduction

This is a One Name Study to collect together in one place everything about one surname and the variants of that name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join our study to help make it a valuable reference point for people studying lines that cross or intersect. Please contact the project leader, add categories to your profiles, add your questions to the bulletin board, add details of your name research, etc. There seem to be three sources of the Lance Family name looking through the profiles on this web page.

English/ Cornish orgins

Two Lance families seem to be originating in the south of England. One around Kent prior to 1690. The other in Cornwall starting the same time. There is a possibility that they related . Most of these Lance families ended up in Australia , New Zealand and South Africa. Few remained in England.

German/ Dutch origins A third possible source of the family is an Anglicization of the name Lanz , Lentz or lantz. These were most likely from German of Dutch origin. More research needs to be done on these origins. These families tend to be found in the USA.

Interested in where the Lance lines originated from across the pond and also interested in tracking by US locations.
