THE EBERLY BIBLE

This is the Title page of the Bible brought to America in 1725 by the pioneer Eberly Family. Translated it reads as follows: The other part of the Old Testament, along with the New, printed in Zurich by Christoffel Froschower in 1536. This Bible passed from generation to generation ' till it was finally place in the Ohio State University Library in the rare books division. There it can be seen and photographed, but not removed from the Library. There are two vey important birth entries in this Bible which substantiates the fact that Israel Eberly, the third Son of Michael Eberly, Sr., born in 1705 is the same person as Israel Eckerlin of the Pious Order of the Ephrata Cloisters, Ephrata, Pa. His writings and activities are well recorded in the records of the Ephrata Cloisters. His brother Gabriel Eberly, the fourth Son of Michael Eberly, Sr., is recorded as born in 1706. His activities are recorded as that of Gabriel Eckerlin in the Cloister records. There are more details on these brothers recorded later in this book. Some more birth entries of the next generations are also recorded in this Bible.

NOTE: There is a handwritten note scrawled across the title page that states, "The Genealogy of the Peter Wealand family" pgs. 325, 326 & 327 adversely affect the credibility of this document.

Bennetch did not, in my opinion, add anything to elucidate or substantiate legends and family lore concerning the origin of Eberlies in Pennsylvania. He merely compiled, and then updated subsequent generations to some extent. It's an enormous effort in compilation. I have yet, however, to see any document or record that supports the claim that Veronica Ulrich Eberly came as a widow with her children to Lancaster County and squatted at Durlach until she died.

There is no such person. The Eberlies were probably in Conestoga living with cousins, etc, that immigrated with them... and then certain branches moved toward Ephrata like everyone else who went sideways for Beissel.
