Disproven Existence Adjunct Project

Goal

The goal of the Disproven Existence Adjunct Project is to isolate major categories of fraudulent trees.
The differences between the Disproven Existence Adjunct sub-Project and its parent the Profile Improvement Project are:
The main project (Disputed Existence) analyses and processes suspected frauds, eventually restoring them as legitimate or by proving they are fabricated through exhaustive research and discussion, and then templating them as "disproven existence."
The Disproven Existence Adjunct Project labels and quarantines known frauds that constitute an entire genealogy. If the parent project is able to determine that an entire family tree is fraudulent or fabricated and the tree is too large and unwieldy, it may be "transfered" to the Adjunct sub-project in order to quarantine it from the rest of the legitimate Wikitree profiles.
By keeping an historic record of fraudulent and fabricated trees, copies can be more easily identified and blocked.

Tasks

Here are some of the tasks that need to be done:
  • recruit new project members/volunteers
  • work on adding project box (with appropriate variable) & project account to profiles that need to be isolated from the Disproven Existence Project/project account
  • improve the Goodman fraud free-space page.
Tasks completed - thank you!
  • 9 Feb 19 - all Goodman profiles processed - (process the Goodman Genealogy and quarantine the fabricated profiles of that grouping)
  • Google group up and running
  • creating a WikiTree project account (done: WikiTree-103)
  • creating a project box (done - see below)
  • refine project box with variable (done - category= variable [see below and/or Template:Disproven Existence Adjunct])
  • work with Isabelle to identify categories to be included in Adjunct project (ls) Any category can be added to the project box.

Maintenance tasks

Monitoring the Goodman fraud profiles to make sure they remain in order:

  • Monitor the Goodman Project activity feed for edits.
  • Check for status errors to catch profiles missing from the project, or which are in the project but should not be. (every week)
  • Check the Unconnected List to make sure that "Goodman" profiles don't appear in there. (every month). Look for the names: Babcock, Badcock, Goodman, Kelley, Elliott, Marin, Brouillard....

Question for you (since this would be useful to the Native Americans project-- which also has an "adjunct" branch (but not separate project). You wrote above:

If they're there, what do you do with them to ensure that they don't stay on that list?

What is supposed to be done when a profile has been demonstrated to be a non-existent person but was not part of a particular genealogy, e.g. the Goodman genealogy? I have several profiles that I have categorized as uncertain existence, but they are really non-existent. In at least three cases, they are non-existent wives which need to be removed from the incorrect spouse and something done with them. How should I proceed and how do I keep them from being added back?
Hi Shirley,

You'll want to have these profiles dealt with by this project's twin, the Disproven Existence Project (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Disproven_Existence) .

To get the profiles managed by Disproven Existence you will need to post a G2G Disproven Existence Notice, leave it for at least one week, and if nobody comes forward with evidence that the person actually existed, the profile should be disconnected from any "real" profiles it may be linked to and adopted by the project. Once project-managed it can be PPP, which should prevent the profile from being added back.

Please email us if you need more details.

Thank you for your prompt response with the information I needed. One of the incorrect/non-existent wives I was concerned with has just been proven to be a real person, just attached to the wrong husband. She has been removed and a merge proposed with her duplicate which is attached to the correct husband. I will deal with the other problem people as you outlined above.
Didn't know about this sub project. Cool.
