Cannon County History
Cannon County was formed on January 31, 1836, from parts of Rutherford, Smith, Warren, and Wilson Counties. It is part of the Grand Division of Middle Tennessee. It was named for Newton Cannon, governor of Tennessee from 1835 to 1839.
Geography
Cannon County is part of Middle Tennessee, one of Tennessee's Three Grand Divisions. These divisions are not only geographic, but also cultural and defined in state law. Cannon County is also part of the South Central Region of Appalachia.
