William Barnes B:Abt. 1720 Caversham, Oxfordshire, England D: This man was my fifth great grandfather. His descendents were from Corsley Wiltshire before my grandfather Samuel Barnes came to live in Wales. I have not sought to go back beyond 1720. Am I linked to anyone on here?
Not sure if we have a link or not but I thought you might be interested to know that the Barnes Surname Project at Family Tree DNA dot com have determined so far 22 separate and unrelated Barnes families. James Barnes c.1655-1726 came to Baltimore, Maryland in 1676 as an indentured servant. Others who came later claimed him as a cousin, they were from Great Sankey, Lancashire. Have not confirmed those claims yet.
My Big Y-700 test results place my paternal line in Britain at least 4000 years ago. Ancient bones carrying my Y-DNA sinature were found East of Edinburgh. So we could be related. It would be wonderful if some Barnes males from Great Britain could Y-DNA test. If nothing else they would be able to learn when they came to Britain.
Best wishes. Donald Barnes Reno, Nevada
