Biography

Michael Soulsby was born in County Durham, England.

Michael was christened on 2 February 1834 in Hetton-Le-Hole, Durham, England, the son of Jacob Soulsby and Elizabeth Hails^[1].

He was a coal miner and married Elzabeth Hails in Newcastle-upon-Tyne on 4 August 1868.

They lived in Easington Lane and they had 4 children:

• Albert (1869)
• Jacob (1872)
• George Thomas (1874)
• Edward (1878)

Elizabeth had a daughter, Priscilla Hails (1861), before she married Michael. She was living with Michael, Isabella and son Albert Hetton-le-Hole at the time of the 1871 census.

They lived in the Easington Lane area until after the 1901 census.

Isabella passed away in 1905 and by the time of the 1911 census, Michael was living with his son, George Thomas Soulsby, in South Shields. George emigrated to South Australia in 1911 with his family following in 1912. Michael didn't go with them and he passed away on 12 July 1912, aged 78 at Stanley, Durham. I presume that when George left England, he moved to live with his eldest son, Albert, who was living in Stanley.
