JOHN SNIDER was b Apr 1743 in either Philadelphia, PA, Baltimore, MD or Richmond, VA (varies according to source). He d 13 May 1830 Monongalia Co., WV. He was captured by Indians ca 1760 and lived with them approximately 9 years. After his return from captivity, he settled on Crooked Run in Monongalia Co., WV in 1769. He marr. ca 1776 Dorcas Evans (1755-1827) d/o John Sr. and Sarah Evans. They had at least 13 children: David m Elizabeth Cotton; Joseph m Charlotte Titus; John m Margaret Price; Joshua m Nancy Miller ; Amos m Cynthia Garrison; Elizabeth m Samuel Billingsley; Rebecca m Stephen Gapen; Elisha m Edith Britton; Elijah m Barasheba Morgan; Thomas m Rebecca ?; Dorcus m John Hall; Celisia m James Jones and Mary (Polly) m Spencer Martin. John Snider served in the Rev. War in Eastern VA. He was more of a hunter than a farmer and farmed with the "labor of others."
